Iron Maidon in love with Vivaldi
Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra combines world hits by Iron Maiden with Vivaldi Baroque hits
7 to 9 p.m., no break
Antonio Vivaldi is known as the “priest with the red hair”. You hardly ever see him in front of the altar; he is a devil’s violinist, opera director, music teacher and one of the most famous composers in Europe at the time of the “Four Seasons”. But it was only two centuries later that his music caused a sensation again, with summer thunderstorms and winter storms, strong images and emotions, complex structures and incredible virtuosity. Vivaldi is the rock star of the Baroque. For this project, led by concertmaster Susanne von Gutzeit, Austrian violinist Bernie Mallinger arranges world hits by Iron Maiden — Vivaldi’s brothers in spirit. The British cult band has been sweeping through arenas on all continents for almost four decades with shows in front of up to 200,000 fans. Their ballads call the eerie and morbid by name and bring it to its knees with razor-sharp cuts, sky-scraping bass solos and hurricane-like drums. Heavy metal at its best — Vivaldi would have loved it!
