Hornissimo festival concert

A celebration for the horn

8 pm, intermission
An event of the BDB Music Academy

A feast for the horn. The big festival concert of Hornissimo, the festival for horn of the BDB Music Academy Staufen, spans a fascinating arc from the historical sound world of the natural horn to gripping contemporary music — crowned by a top-class world premiere.
Interpreted by Stefan Berrang and Alexandre Zanetta, impressive works for natural horn are performed that bring the original, archaic magic of the instrument to life. Together with other performers, Saar Berger focuses on contemporary sound languages for one or more horns — sonically diverse, virtuosic and full of expressiveness.

A highlight of the evening is Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1, played by Samuel Seidenberg, a milestone in horn literature full of youthful brilliance and romantic expressiveness. A very special moment awaits the audience with the world premiere of Enjott Schneider’s Horn Concerto No. 1 “The Dream of Eternity”, a work about the friendship between Richard Wagner and King Ludwig II, impressively premiered by Christoph Eß.

The concert is rounded off by the Hornissimo instructors, who present rousing, “groovy” literature in an ensemble of 6 to 12 horns — a powerful finale full of energy and joyful playing. A concert that celebrates the full diversity of the horn: traditional, modern and visionary.
